Carbon GAC Filters InformationWhat are Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filters Used for?
Carbon filters are used to reduce chlorine, organics, color, tannin, and objectionable tastes and odors from water. Carbon Filters Significantly Reduce the Following Contaminants:
What is Activated Carbon?
Carbon is an extremely porous material that attracts and holds a wide range of harmful contaminants. Activated carbon is carbon which has a slight electro-positive charge added to it, making it even more attractive to chemicals and impurities. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules. What effect will a high value of chlorine in your tap water have on the RO membranes? How can we reduce/eliminate the chlorine?
Chlorine will destroy the RO membranes. In the USA and Canada, the amount of chlorine in water is 0.2 to 1 ppm. Chlorine can be removed by using an activated carbon system or cartridges.
